All dielectric materials have electroactivity, that is, the ability to changing their dimension or shape in response an applied electric field. The electroactive polymer (EAP) and its nanocomposites are particularly interesting for applications range from actuators sensors generators, due low moduli, high strain capabilities ease of processing at cost customizable electromechanical coupling properties. In this chapter, authors focus on electrostrictive polymeric materials. fundamental issues promising addressed. recent progress toward giant-electrostriction EAPs field is reviewed some long-standing challenges practical also discussed. Experimental determination electrostriction coefficient typically performed actuator mode. It expected development new formulation microfabrication technologies will help optimization control nanocomposite structures achieve enhanced properties years come.
